BUTLER — LEORA RUTH DANIELS, 77, of Butler died Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at Laurel of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler after a short battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully with her children and family members by her bedside. Mrs. Daniels was born Nov. 1, 1931, to Earnest Walter Raymond Brandau and Alvina Victoria (Gajewski) Brandau. She was born near Norwalk, Wisconsin, at the Gajewski family farm.

She married Wallace Carroll Daniels in Norwalk, Wis., on October 21, 1950. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2002. She was raised on the family farm and attended a one-room school house from grades first through eighth and then attended and graduated from Sparta High School in Sparta, Wis.

Leora was a loving and devoted mother to 13 children. She spent the majority of her life raising and caring for children. She was an avid reader and the family historian. She was very talented and always busy making precious items for family and friends with her hands. She looked forward to the fair each year, so she could enter items that she had made. She won many awards with her hand knitted mittens and her crochet dollies. This year she received a champion, reserve champion and three blue ribbons to add to her collection of past ribbons. Leora’s other hobbies included sewing, cooking, canning and gardening. She was always thinking of others and her home was always full and known for its large dinners and holiday family get togethers. She was a friend to everyone she met and loved by all. She was a member of the Newville Church of Christ in Newville.

She is survived by one brother, Byron Brandau of Sparta, Wis., and one sister, Dorthy Waterman of LaCross, Wis.; nine sons and daughters-in-law; four daughters and sons-in-law; 39 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Hazel Brandau, Ardith Sletten and Eunice Dowin; three grandsons, Bradley Lockhart, Robert Daniels and Cory Hankey; a great-grandson, Conner Daniels; and a granddaughter, Heather Dix.
