Nels J. Silverness came in 1871 from Vik, Sogn country, Norway to Wisconsin. He had been a school teacher and farmer in Norway. Nels came to Bennett Valley, Buffalo County, WI where he was a farmer. In 1909, he and his family moved to Mondovi WI where he owned a shop mading and repairing shoes and harnesses. Nels also taught English to Norwegian speaking children. Note: 1880 Federal Census, Nels J. Silverness and family are listed under the name Johnson.
