Emma Juliette Borchers Bailey was the third child and second daughter of Henry Conrad Borchers and Ann Ivy Warford. Emma was born and grew up in Andrew County, Missouri. Emma was one of eight children born to Henry and Ann. She had an older brother, Sylvester Albert, and an older sister, Sarah Elizabeth. Emma had three younger brothers, William Henry, Ulysses Sidney Grant, and Frederick Webster. She also had two younger sisters, Hattie Elizabeth and Fannie Loretta.

On September 28, 1883 Emma married William Walden Bailey and their marriage produced ten children. Her children were...(In order of their birth)Nellie, Charles H., Frank Estes, Margaret Ann, Maude E, Ethel Rose, John E, James A, Marie, and William Clifford.
