Ulysses S Grant Borchers was born in Maryville, Missouri in 1872. He was the third son of Henry Conrad Borchers and Ann Ivy Warford. He had an older brother, Sylvester Albert, an older brother, William Henry Borchers and a younger brother, Frederick Webster Borchers. He had four sisters; Sarah Elizabeth Borchers, Emma Juliette Borchers, Hattie Elizabeth Borchers and Fannie Lorretta Borchers Cole.

Ulysses Sidney Grant Borchers grew up in Maryville, Missouri and lived there till the age of 43. On May 1st, 1895, he married Myrtle Markwell in Maryville, Missouri. Several children would come from their union. Six sons; William Owen, Theodore Rooselvelt (Ted), Kenneth, Henry Carl, Otis W,and Leo Harold. Five daughters Lola Van Alstine, Lillian Pearl Kelley, Elsie Lucille Borchers Richards, May Thomas, and Goldie Alice Marie McIntyre.

In 1916, Ulysses and his wife, Myrtle moved to Bremerton, Washington. Ulysses worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a rigger from 1916 to 1942. He and his wife moved to Port Orchard, Washington in 1946 and celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary in 1960.

Ulysses died at a South Kitsap nursing home following an extended illness. Services were held on Friday August 7, 1964 at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home. His body was creamated.
