Hattie was the fifth born child of Henry Conrad Borchers and Ann Ivy Warford. She had four brothers and three sisters. Her brothers were Sylvester Albert Borchers (1860-1934) William Henry Borchers (1868-1943), Ulyssess Sidney Grant Borchers (1872-1964) and Frederick Webster Borchers. Her sisters were Sarah Elizabeth Borchers, Emma Juliette Borchers (1866-1920), and Fannie Loretta Borchers (1874-1968).

Hattie grew up in Andrew County Missouri and went to school through the eighth grade. She met her husband James Buchanan Borchers and they married on Dec 9, 1889. From their union would come three children: Earl Conrad Borchers (1891-1953), Carl Borchers who would live for only 20 hours, and Carol Ralph Borchers (1896-1958). Hattie and James lived on a farm in Rosendale, Andrew County, Missouri thru the 1900 census. Census records then show them moving to Benton, Missouri and at age sixty, the census shows them living in Nodaway, Missouri. The 1940 census shows them living at 1103 Lucella Avenue in Savannah, Missouri.

Hattie died on Jan 14, 1950 at the age of 79 from cancer of the left breast that had spread all over her body. She also had significant heart disease. She died at Missouri Methodist Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri and was buried in Savannah Cemetery.

Hattie's grave is located in Savannah Cemetery. Here are the directions if you want to find it...From Savannah city square, go south 2.5 blocks. Fourth Street goes through the east side of the cemetery. Benton Street is on teh north, Fifth Street
