Great Aunt Bertha "Bert" was a daughter of Maston "Matthew" Wiley Box and Margaret Elizabeth (Seats) Box. She had four siblings:
William Jennings (1890-1980)
Delia Ann (Box) Alcorn (1892-1980)
Maude Odessa (Box) Tucker (1894-1981)
Thomas Glenster (1899-1989)

She married William Oren Partney on March 27, 1920 in Carter Co., MO. The announcement of their marriage appeared in the 4-1-1920 edition of The Current Local, Van Buren, Carter Co., MO on the front page (used with permission).

Young Couple Married

"W. O. Partney, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Partney of Chilton, and Miss Bertha Boxx [sic] of Ellsinore, were united in matrimony Saturday evening at the home of the officiating minister, Rev. B. E. Kingen, in Ellsinore. The groom is an industrious young man of fine habits and his bride is one of the popular young school teachers of the county. They will make their home on the Partney farm near Chilton."

Funeral Held Monday for Bertha Partney, 86

The funeral service for Bertha Partney, 86, who died Friday, Mar. 2, 1984 was conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the McSpadden Funeral Chapel in Van Buren.

Mrs. Partney died Friday at Doctors Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. She was born Aug. 27, 1897, in Ellsinore.

She had made her home in Van Buren for 45 years. She was a member of the Van Buren First Baptist Church and the Sunshine Club.

Survivors are her husband, W. O. Partney of Van Buren; two sons, Dwain Partney of Key Colony Beach, Fla., and Robert Partney of St. Louis; one daughter, Lillian Jones of Clarenton, Calif.; one brother, Tom Boxx of Lakewood, Calif., eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Gene Edwards officiated the funeral service, and burial was in the Van Buren Cemetery.
