After leaving school Johanna stayed at home to keep house and look after her widowed father. Soon after, Johanna went to Pontypridd in South Wales to help with the birth of Margaret Rothwell. Her sister Annie's first child.
She married Laurence Hennessy on 7th October 1903, in Pontypridd, Glamorgan. They had nine children in 19 years. The family moved to Kingston in 1934. She died on 16th March 1947, in Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey, at the age of 65, and was buried there on Friday, 21st March 1947.
