When Laurence Hennessy was born on 27th August 1872, in New Ross, Wexford, Ireland, his father, James, was 26 and his mother, Margaret, was 32. He was one of four children, his siblings were James, Molly and Annie. After trying Liverpool, he finally settled in Pontypridd, Glamorgan lodging with the Gair family, working as a Coal Hewer.
He married Johanna Lambert on 7th October 1903, in Pontypridd. They had nine children in 19 years. The family moved to Kingston in 1934. He died on 6th June 1954, at home in Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey, at the age of 81, and was buried there on Friday, 9th July 1954.
