Violet (Stroup) Carl – The Cumberland Times News Published: December 16, 2008

LAVALE — Violet Carl, 98, of LaVale, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at her residence.

She was born April 21, 1910, in Warren, Pa., to the late George Otis and Grace (Stahlman) Stroup. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five brothers, Arnold Stroup, Otis "June" Stroup, Glenn Stroup, Faye Stroup and Ira Stroup; and two sisters, Pauline Easton and Mary Jane Stewart. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Carl was a 50-plus year member of the Centre Street United Methodist Church, was a member of the Civic Club, the Daughters of the Nile and the "Lunch Bunch" from Keyser. She worked as a bookkeeper in her husband's business, Penn-Mar Motors, for many years.

Her husband Urner, who survives, was married to "His Little Flower," Violet, 66 years ago on an Army base in Sioux Falls, S.D. by an Army chaplain. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, William Stewart; and a sister-in-law, Almeda "Pete" Stroup; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two special angels, Susan Houser and Kim Lehman.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Funeral Service, P.A., Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Visitation will be held at the Centre Street United Methodist Church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd McCanna officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Cumberland.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Mark Stewart, Scott Stewart, Otis Stroup, Gary Shears, Chuck Thompson; and friend, Colin Detrick. Condolences may be sent to the family through www.haferfuneralservice.com.
