Mary Jane Stewart

Mary Jane Stewart, 73, of 605 Chestnut Street, Keyser, WV, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at her residence.

Born on November 20, 1929 at Cumberland, MD, she was a daughter of the late George Otis and Grace Leota (Stahlman) Stroup. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Stewart was retired as a secretary and office manager with the West Virginia University Extension Office at the Mineral County Courthouse with 21 years of service. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Keyser and was a 1947 graduate of Allegany High School, Cumberland and Catherman’s Business School. She was also a member of the Potomac Valley Chapter of the WVU Alumni and was an avid and loyal WVU football fan. She was a member of Chapter 191, Women of the Moose, Keyser, the Ladies Auxiliary to Victory Post # 155, American Legion, Westernport, MD and the “Lunch Bunch of Keyser.”

Surviving is her husband of 51 years, William R. Stewart; one daughter, Debra S. Shears and husband Gary of Bear, Delaware; two sons, Mark W. Stewart and wife Pam of Keyser and R. Scott Stewart and wife Dana Ann of Shepherdstown, WV and one sister, Violet Carl and husband Urner of Cumberland. Also surviving are the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Gary Shears, Jr. and wife Judy, Chad Shears and wife Angela and Lisa Shears, all of Morgantown, WV, Andrew Shears of Alexandria, VA and Bree and Brett Stewart, both of Keyser; and her great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Chad, Jr., Abigail, Brennan, Kaden and Jaden Shears.

Friends were received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, May 1 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services were conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, May 2 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Fredric W. Villinger officiating.

Interment was in the Queen’s Point Cemetery, Keyser.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Potomac Valley Chapter of the WVU Alumni, P.O. Box 311, Keyser, WV 26726.
