Mother Harmon was united in marriage to Mr. Jim Harmon on March 7, 1946.

She joined St. John M. B. Church in McAdams, MS; at an early age.

She received her formal education in the Kosciusko, MS; public schools. and Jacob Chapel School. She furthered her education by taking courses at Saint Jr. College, Tougaloo College, Rust College, and Mississippi State University.

Mother Harmon was a member of the NAACP. She was an active community leader and participated in the boycotting of Fred's Dollar Store in Kosciusko and Durant, MS. She worked the polling booths in McAdams, MS; and strongly supported and advocated the need for registering to vote. Her commitment to civil rights led her to spearhead and successfully procure water rights for her rural areas of the county.

Mother Harmon taught Head Start School for Central Mississippi Inc. at Christian Liberty and Barlow Head Start centers for 30 years.

Mother Harmon always put God first and strongly believed that education was the key to success, whether formal or informal. One of her favorite mottos was "Be the job great or small, do it well or not at all." She always taught the golden rule: "Do unto others as you would have them to do unto you, and always put God first in whatever you do."

Mother Harmon served faithfully on the Hospitality Committee, Mother's Board, Missionary Board, and Choir, and taught Sunday School. In 2010, she was chosen "Mother of the Year".

Mother Harmon was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Jim R. Harmon. To this union twelve children were conceived; one daughter, Mildred Harmon, preceded her in death, and one son.
