Emily Boone, daughter of Hezekiah and Sarah Boone, was born in Medina county, Ohio, December 1, 1839, and passed away at her home in Aledo, Illinois Saturday morning, August 31, 1918.
When about 9 years of age she came with her parents to the southern part of Illinois. Later in 1851, they came to Mercer county, where her home has continued to be. On February 26, 1857, she was united in marriage to Theodore H. Day. To this union, eight children were born, Elva, Frank M., Charles, Kate F., Eva A., Mollie M., James H. and George H., all of whom have preceded her in death except James H. and George H. The husband passed away January 15, 1910. She leaves to mourn her going, the two sons, James H. and George H., one brother, Washington Boone, of Aledo, 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Day, in spite of her advanced age, kept herself well informed as to present day events; being a great reader, and hers was a remarkably retentive mind. She was just recently called upon to mourn the death of a grandson, Private Floyd D. McGee, who gave up his life on the battlefield of France. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of this city but of late years was kept from attendance by illness and infirmities of age. Her friends were many, being numbered among the old and young alike and her memory will long be cherished by these friends.
"Life, I know not what thou art,
But this I know, that thou and I must part;
And where and when and how we met,
I own, to me is a secret yet.
Life, we have been long together,
Through cloudy and through sunny weather;
'Tis hard to part when friends are dear,
Perhaps 'twill cause a sigh, a tear;
Then steal away, give little warning,
Choose thine own time, say not, 'Good-night.'
