She was born to Hans and Lena Schwitzer Gyr on April 7, 1921, in Fond du Lac.
Helen was educated in the Fond du Lac School System.
On March 18, 1939, she married Wilton Eickhoff at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Parsonage with Pastor Gerhard Pieper officiating. He preceded her in death. On October 12, 1963, she married Robert C. Immel at Luther Memorial Church with Pastor Waldemar Schuetze officiating. He also preceded her in death.
Helen's life passion was farming. She farmed together with her husband, Bob, son, Lynn, from 1963-1989, and continued to help until 2002. She was also employed at Model Laundry and Goodwill Store, where they enjoyed working with her as much as she enjoyed working with them. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Fond du Lac Senior Center.
Helen was a charter member of Luther Memorial Church, Fond du Lac.
She is survived by four children: Georgene (Larry) Stubbs and their children: Matthew (Holly) Stubbs, and Michelle (Bruce) Immel; Phillip (Rosie) Eickhoff; William (Chris) Eickhoff and their daughters: Anne (Wesley) Thelen, Ellen, and Clara Eickhoff; and Lynn Immel and his daughters: Jennifer, Crystin, and Rebecca Immel; seven great grandchildren: Samantha, Joshua, Daniel, and Shannon Stubbs, and Alex, Alizabeth, and Isaac Thelen; two brothers: Leonard (Vivian) Gyr, and Ronald (Dorothy) Gyr; a sister, Brenda Gyr; a brother-in-law, Robert Johnson; two sisters-in-law: Janine Gyr, and Lois (Joe) Floyd; many nieces and nephews; a special niece, Joanie Bothe; and wonderful neighbors, Louis and Barb Simons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, William and Clara Eickhoff, and Louis and Tessie Immel. She is also preceded in death by four sisters: Alice (Carl) Ziebell, Martha (John) Stevens, Edna (Donald) Osier, and Elaine Johnson; two brothers: Hans Gyr Jr., and Gene Gyr; a brother-in-law, Harold (Mildred) Eickhoff; a sister-in-law, Dela (Raymond) Steffen, and their daughter, Betty Moore. She is further preceded in death by three brothers-in-law: Darwin (Gladys) Immel, Kenneth (Esther) Immel, and Donald Immel; and two sisters-in-law: Lucille (Gilbert) Kanaur, and Dorothy (Francis) Bothe.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Luther Memorial Church, 134 21st Street, Fond du Lac with Rev. Neal Radichel officiating. Burial will follow at Rienzi Cemetery.
The visitation will be on Thursday at church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Luther Memorial Church.
