On August 17, 1917, she was born in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Hans and Lina [nee: Schweitzer] Gyr. After working 30 years as a sales clerk she retired from Mueller-Potter Drug. For 13 years after her retirement, she was a Foster Grandmother, serving children at the Winnebago Health Center. She was united in marriage to John W. Stevens on August 5, 1938 in Ludington, MI. He died on July 20, 1984. She was known for remembering her family and friends. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter: Jacqueline (Richard) Kennedy of St. Paul, MN; her two sons: John (Constance) Stevens of Kohler, WI; Mark S. Stevens of Oshkosh; her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; her brothers: Leonard R. (Vivian) Gyr and Roland (Dorothy) Gyr both of Fond du Lac, WI; her three sisters: Brenda Gyr and Helen Immel both of Fond du Lac; Elaine (Robert) Johnson of West Bend; her sister-in-law: Jeannine Gyr of Fond du Lac; many nieces and nephews and her friends: Karen Stedl, Paul Redemann, Diane (Robert) Below, Sue Hipple and Lucille Moeri.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Hans Gyr, Jr., and Gene Gyr and two sisters: Alice Ziebell and Edna Osier.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 11, 2004 at Fiss and Bills Funeral Home with Chaplain Cathie Vander Velden officiating. Friends may greet the family Saturday, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Fiss and Bills. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Martha's name to the Donor's Choice.
