David C. Murphy, one of the most widely known and highly esteemed citizens of Stockwell, passed away at hi home last night at 9:30 o'clock. He had been an invalid for a year, suffering from paralysis, but the immediate cause of death was uremia poisoning. Mr. Murphy was born in Carroll county on November 14, 1841, and was the son of Alexander and Sarah Moore Murphy. He was married on Oct 17, 1872, to Miss Florida Kirkpatrick, at Decatur, Ill. Mr. Murphy was a veteran of the civil war, and served from Oct 5, 1861, to Sep 4, 1865, as a member of Co. A, 46th Indiana Vol. Inf. He was captured by the rebels at Sabin Cross Roads on April 8, 1864, and was held a prisoner for eight months in the camps of Tyler and Hempstead. Mr. Murphy was a member of Carroll Post No. 393, G..A.R.; Miller lodge No. 268, F & A. M; Stockwell Lodge No., 439, I.O.O.F., and Summitt Lodge No. 359, K of P. He was a member of the Stockwell Christian church and was a true Christian. He had many friends and was held in high esteem. He was a true and affectionate husband, a kind and loving father and a good citizen. Besides the widow, he is survived by one son, Glenn Murphy. The funeral will be conducted from the Christian church at Stockwell Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock. Rev. C. W. Walthall will officiate and the interment will be made in the Johnson cemetery. Friends requested to omit flowers.
