Mary Sabina Tuhey, 55, long identified with one of Muncie's pioneer and most representative families and wife of former Mayor Edward Tuhey, died at the Tuhey homestead, 1121 South Walnut street, at 8:55 o'clock last evening, following an extended illnes.
Although in failing health for several years, Mrs. Tuhey's condition was not considered alarming until recently, when a decided change for the worse, was apparent. Since then death has been expected almost hourly. With the visit of the Death Angel Muncie has lost another beautiful character, an active and prominent church worker and above all, an ideal mother.
Mrs. Tuhey was the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Eliza McKinley, and was born at the old McKinley homestead, in West Jackson street, December 24, 1862. On October 18, 1876, she was united in marriage to Edward Tuhey, who survives her. She also leaves ten children, Carl Tuhey, Earl Tuhey, Walter Tuhey, Ray Tuhey, John Edward Tuhey, Arthur Tuhey and Frederick Tuhey, and Mrs. Nellie Tuhey Krug, Mrs. Erma Tuhey Fillman of Detroit, Mich., and Miss Blanche Tuhey, to mourn her loss. Other surviving are three brothers, Edward A. and Joseph W. McKinley, of Muncie, and Gola C. McKinley, of Cleveland; and three sisters, Laura and Sarah McKinley and Mrs. Martha McKinley Nichols, of this city.
Mrs. Tuhey was an active member of the High Street M.E. Church and took an enthusiastic interest in all church affairs. However, her home and children were the two great factors in her life and her faithfulness to her home, children and church will be missed by all.
No funeral arrangements had been made last evening.
