Funeral services for H. Arthur Tuhey, Muncie's former mayor, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Meeks Mortuary.
Mr. Tuhey died Thursday evening in Ball Hospital shortly after being admitted. He suffered a heart attack.
Rev. Lewis W. Gishler, pastor of First Presbyterian Church will be in charge of services. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary.
Mr. Tuhey was the only mayor to serve two consecutive terms, holding office from 1956 to 1964.
Mr. Tuhey was born in Muncie, August 20, 1895, the son of Edward and Mary S. (McKinley) Tuhey, and lived his entire life in the Muncie community, His father also served two terms as Muncie mayor and 18 years as a member of the school board.
Mr. Tuhey, prior to becoming mayor, was a member of the School Board. He was appointed to the board by the City Council in 1950 and in 1951 was elected in the community's first school board election.
The former mayor attended Harrison and Garfield elementary schools and Central High School where he performed three years as a member of the basketball team. Always a follower of local sports, Mayor Tuhey attended last Saturay's Ball State-Evansville football game and had supported teams at the university and local high schools for many years.
He attended Purdue University 2 years and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity there. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge.
As a businessman, Mr. Tuhey operated the Tuhey Canning Co. and the Tuhey Coal and Oil Co. for 25 years with his brother, Ray. The business was established in 1899 by their father.
Surviving are the widow, Gertrude; two daughters, Mrs. Robert J. (Patricia) Brockhurst of Marblehead, Mass. and Mrs. Jack E. (Janet) Craig of Muncie; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Krug of Hollywood, Calif. and Mrs. Erma Fillman, Grosse Point, Mich.; two other brothers, J. Edward and Fred, both of Muncie; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mayor John V. Hampton, who along with other city officials and civic leaders expressed shock and regret over news of Mr. Tuhey's death, and said city flags will be flown at half-mast until after the funeral.
