John R. Dakins, 87, Plover, died at 10:25 p.m. Sunday at St. Michael's Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Boston Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyndon Viel of Plover Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be held in the Liberty Corners Cemetery in the town of Buena Vista. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Dakins was born Sept. 20, 1883, in McDill. He attended schools in McDill. He worked as a logger in northern Wisconsin as a young man. He married Mildred Fletcher on Nov. 23, 1905, and they farmed in the Buena Vista area. In 1947, they moved to Plover and Mr. Dakins was employed by Acron Barn Equipment Co. until his retirement in 1955.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; four sons, George, Mishawaka, IN, Carroll, Plover, Wilbur, Wisconsin Rapids, and Kenneth, Wisconsin Rapids; four daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Lois) Worden, Buena Vista, Mrs. Raymond (Dorothy) Wollslair, Plover, Mrs. George (Eleanor) Jaecks, Wausau, and Mrs. William (Shirley) Clussman, Wisconsin Rapids; 28 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dakins was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two daughters and one brother.
