Hillery Osborn, youngest son of Mary and Frank Osborn, was born near Davis City, Iowa, September 9, 1885 and passed away at his home, Tuesday evening, August 16, 1955 at the age of 69 years, 11 months, and 7 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and son Gerald. His entire life was spent in and near Davis City, having lived on his farm west of town until 16 years ago, when he moved to his present home.
He was a graduate of the Davis City high school, and for many years has been engaged in the real estate and Insurance business.
On February 2, 1915 he was united in marriage with Georgia Cartwright to which union were born three children, Loraine, of Davis City, and Marjorie Murphy, of Montgomery, Alabama, and son Gerald who passed away.
He has been in failing health since 1945. All that medical aid and the devoted care of his wife, son and daughter-in-law Freda were given him to make his last years as comfortable as possible.
He was cheered by frequent visits from his daughter and family and received much pleasure from his grandchildren. He appreciated the visits and all the varied kindnesses shown him by his many friends. He was heard to say: "I never knew there were so many good people in the world until I became sick. They have been wonderful to me."
He was a member of Remembrance Lodge A. F. and A. M. for many years.
Thus in a few words is summed up the life of our friend and neighbor who has been a part of the life of our community.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Georgia, his son Loraine and wife, Freda, and his daughter Marjorie and her husband; besides his six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
