My Uncle Jimmy was a wonderful fun-loving man and a large presence in my younger life. I remember he would always fix us large bowls of popcorn and let us kids camp out in the living room to watch movies. His family had the first Atari we had ever seen. They had a pony in their backyard for a time.

Services for James D Knapp 38, of 2928 Fifty-Fourth St., will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Westover Funeral Home, with burial in Masonic Cemetery.
Authorities said Mr. Knapp was found in his car June 25 at Camp Dodge, suffering from a gunshot wound and he died Tuesday at Iowa Methodist Hospital of complications from the wound. Dr. R. C. Wooters, Polk County medical examiner, ruled the death a suicide.
A lifelong resident of Des Moines, Mr. Knapp was a salesman for Iowa Realty Co. and a member of Acanthus Masonic Lodge, Des Moines Consistory, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, the Des Moines Realtors Association, the Des Moines Home Builders Association and Westminster United Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, two sons, and two daughters, all at home; two brothers, Howard of Salisbury, N. C., and Harold of Des Moines; and seven sisters, Mrs. Pauline Porter, Mrs. Margaret Miller, Mrs. Louise Woods, Mrs. Lucille Woodyard, Mrs. Norma Roquet, Mrs. Gloria Carder, all of Des Moines and Mrs. Carol Roberts of Minneapolis, Mn.
The family suggests contributions to the Shrine Hospitals for Crippled Children and the Shrine Burn Center.
