He was the grandson of a former Mayor of Douglas, Daniel Gaskin. Mr. Clough also served as Mayor of Douglas from 1949-1951. During his administration the Coffee County Hospital and the Douglas Recreation Center were built. As a young man, Mr. Clough served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was also in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Douglas Masonic Lodge F&AM #386. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Douglas, where he served as a Deacon and was a former Chairman of the Board oaf Deacons.
Survivors include: his wife, Bessie Johnson Clough; 1 daughter, Phyllis Davis of Lakeland, Fla; 2 sons, Ronald Clough of Huntsville, Ala, And Wayne Clough of Blacksburg, Virginia; 3 sisters, Lois Clough Walker and Annie Clough Meeks of Douglas, Sarah Belle Clough of Jacksonville, Fla; 1 brother, Lamar Clough of Douglas,; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephew.
Funeral services were held at 2pm Saturday, February 6, 1988, at the First Baptist Church with the interment in the Douglas City Cemetery.
Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
