Son of Judge Nero and Elizabeth M. (Gatewood) Pitchford, of Allen County, Kentucky. Grandson of Orange Davis Sr. and Mary E. (Fitzpatrick) Pitchford and Grandson of Fletcher and Mary (Calvert) Gatewood. Finis is one of twelve children were born to Nero and Elizabeth. The twelve named: Mary Edward, Emma A., William George, Laura D., Catherine Winston, Bettie Elizabeth, Clay, James Emory, John Jasper, Loula, Bruce and Finis.

Finis and his wife Ada, became pioneer grocery store owners of "F. Pitchford Meat Market" at 347 Bryan St., Dallas, Texas.
