Last Rites for Wilber Thomazin
Wilber Elmer Thomazin, son of Thomas R. and Frieda Albers Thomazin, was born February 12, 1913 in the Burrows Township north of Monroe and died Monday, December 1, 1997, at the Columbus Community Hospital. He was 84 years of age.
He received his elementary education at Postville School District No. 31 and District No. 68 of Platte County and attended St. Edward High School.
On June 1, 1939, he and Kathryn Koerber were united in mariage by Father Leahy at the Catholic Parsonage in Genoa. They lived their entire married lives in the Woodville, Big Cut Community between St. Edward and Genoa and were engaged in farming.
Mrs. Thomazin died March 19, 1994. Mr. Thomazin had made his home at the Columbus Communiy Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit since February of 1996 and it was there where he passed away.
He was a longtime member of St. Edward Catholic Church. He served as a board member of both Big Cut School District No. 12 of Nance County and the St. Edward Rural Fire District.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Johnson and her husband, Kenneth, of Columbus and Ann Johnson and her husband, Rob, of Olympia, Washington; two sons, Kenneth Thomazin, D.V.M. and his wife, Elizabeth of Sacramento, California and Max Thomazin and his wife JoAnn, of Genoa; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dolores Roberts and her husband, Earl, of St. Edward; along with many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn, in 1994; brother, Glenn; and three sisters, Mildred Werts, Lola Iverson and Cleo Nauenburg.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 1997 at the St. Edward Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Gill officiating. Serving as organist was Sister Agatha Marie. Lector was Steve Roberts, Cantor was Jerome Gasper and EME was Deanna Reardon.
Casket bearers were Kirk Johnson, John Thomazin, Brett Thomazin, Bradley Kustka, Kent Thomazin, D.V.M.,and Steven Thomazin, Sgt. USMC. Interment was in St. Edward Cemetery.

Our Dad touched many hearts in his long lifetime and we, his children, grandchildren and our great-grandchildren have enjoyed your love and prayerful concern because of this legacy. We will never be the same.
The good harvest was in...that work was all completed...and our beloved Dad is safely home for Christmas.
