After marriage he worked at the Otis Paper Co in Livermore Falls for time. He was a farmer and carpenter living in Livermore most of his life. In 1914 while serving as a town constable he was shot and critically wounded by an irrate dog owner. Reported in the Lewiston Sun-Journal May 26, 1914.

Death: Obituary in the Lewiston Daily Sun, Feb. 11, 1946. His favorite recreation was fox hunting with a hound. The day he died he had shot his fox and was showing it to his hunting companions when he suffered a massive heart attack. He went with his boots on.
His obituary also reads:
"A native of Fayette, Mr. Berry was born Dec. 12 1873, the son of S.H.J. Berry and Mary Frances Pike Berry. He came here about 45 years ago and had operated a large farm at North Livermore.
Mr. Berry had served as a selectman, tax collector and as a member of the school board. He was a member of the North Livermore Baptist Church, Masonic bodies of Livermore Falls and Norland Grange.
Besides his widow, Nettie Richards Berry, he leaves a son, Lewis of North Livermore; two daughters, Mrs. Chester Verrill, Cumberland Center, and Mrs. Hobart V. Jones, Sandy Hook; 14 grandchildren, three brothers, Rockwood of Alabama, and Joseph and Isaac of Wayne; five sisters, Mrs. Emma Gorden, Mrs. Eva Treat of Livermore Falls; Mrs. Catherine Bisby, California; Mrs. Alice Tetlow, and Marcia Dobson of Providence, R.I."

Birth certificate for Veartrice shows that H.P. Berry was born in Chesterville. He was a farmer and living in Livermore at the time.
