BEST, Vern Isaac, age 85 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at his home. He had been a member of Carpenters United Methodist Church for 53 years, was a decorated veteran of World War II having served with the U. S. Army during the Battle of the Bulge, was retired from ALCOA after 28 years of service and was a member of the 25 Year Service Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Cora Irene Huffstetler Best; brothers, Truman, Fred, Edgar, Claude, and Lawrence "Shorty" Best; sisters, Mary Coning, Edith Dawson; son-in-law, Stephen Reed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Mildred Murphy Best; sons, Isaac Best, Steven Best both of Maryville, special friend, David Mull of Maryville; daughters, Avice Reed of Maryville, LaVern Sellers and husband Jerry of Townsend, Cindy Morton and husband Larry and Kathy White and husband Eddie all of Maryville; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Burl Best of Maryville; loving caretakers, Nancy Norton, Laverne Ogle, Sue Gates and grandson, John Best.

Funeral services were held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jackie Midkiff and Rev. Ken Tucker officiating. The interment was at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Carpenters Cemetery with Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carpenters United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3538 Best Road, Maryville, TN 37803.
