Edward Arthur Baker, second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Baker, was born at the home near Benedict, Nov. 10, 1881, and died at York general hospital, Sept. 22, 1952, at the age of 70. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage April 19 and had been hospitalized since that time.
Survivors include a sister, Miss Pearl Baker of York; nine brothers, Grant of North Garden, Va., Ira of Enumclaw, Wash., Ray of Keenesburg, Cole., Earl of Saybrook, Ill., Clyde of Clarks, Oliver of Polk, William, Floyd and Wayne of Benedict; 29 nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Frank and Charles, and a sister, Ella, preceded him in death.
His hobby was traveling and he had been to the East and West coasts many times. As a young man he went to western Oregon and worked in a lumber camp and sawmill.
Returning to Nebraska, he began farming near Litchfield in Sherman county. About 1909 he returned to York county to farm. Ten years later he moved to Kimball where he farmed for 20 years. Then he moved to Idaho where he remained five years. In failing health, he then returned to Polk where he spent his last years.
Funeral services were held at Metz chapel in York, Thursday, with the REv. Charles Wantz officiating. Mrs. Hermann Glock was soloist.
Pallbearers were Albert McCarty, Frank cockle, Henry Cross, Charles McCarty, Joe Read and Harold Robinson. Burial was at Pleasant Hill near Benedict.
