William Baker Dies At Home
William M. Baker, 59, Benedict farmer and a life-time resident of the community, died Saturday at his farm home situated 4 1/2 miles southwest of Benedict.
In failing health for more than a year, Mr. Baker had submitted to surgery in November 1958 and again in June 1959. He died just a half mile from the parental home where he was born January 31, 1900, one of 12 sons and two daughters of Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Baker, both deceased.
Mr. Baker has served as a York County board member for two terms; had bee a school board member of District 43; a member of the Farm Bureau and the Farmers Grain Association board and as a member of the Shiloh E.U.B. church of which he was a trustee at the time of his death.
Survivors include his widow, Mildred, correspondent for The York Daily News-Times; two sons, Don and Roy, both at home; one daughter, Marilyn, student nurse at Lincoln General Hospital and now on affiliation at Children's Memorial Hospital at Denver, Colo.; Clyde, Clarks, Nebr.; Oliver, Polk; Earl, Saybrook, Ill., and Floyd and Wayne, both of Benedict, and one sister Pearl Baker, nurse at York General Hospital since 1942.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were three brothers, Frank, Portland, Ore., Edward, Benedict, and Charles of Lincoln, and one sister, Ella Harrington, Arborville, Nebr.
Funeral services will be held from the Metz Chapel at 2:30 p..m. Tuesday. The Rev. Charles Wantz will officiate. The Rev. Maude Mann of Lushton will assist. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Benedict.
