Levi Evarts was born on January 1, 1844, to Reuben and Rebecca Evarts in Richland County, Ohio. According to his brother's death record, Levi's twin brother, Eli Evarts, was born on December 31, 1844, so Levi and Eli Evarts were twins, but were born in two different years. He enlisted as a private in Co. E, 102nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, on 18 August 1862 at the age of 18. Mustered Out on 30 June 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.
