Albert Bailey
Albert Bailey, an aged and respected resident of the village of Middlefield, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur I. Goodenough, with whom he was living, in that village, Monday morning, February 18th, in the eightieth year of his age.
He was born in Middlefield, in the house where he died, June 2, 1838, the son of Erastus Bailey and Amelia Knapp, and had lived the greater part of his life in that village.
Mr. Bailey was twice married, his first wife being Savilla Thayer, daughter of John and Amelia Thayer of the town of Middlefield, who died in August, 1895. His second wife was Charinda Goodman of the town of Springfield, who died in April, 1913.
He served three years in the Civil war, 1861-1865, as a private in Company E, 121st Regiment, N.Y. Vols., enduring many hardships and battles for his country's sake.
Deceased was a good and affectionate husband and kind and loving father and is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Arthur I. Goodenough of Middlefield, N.Y., Mrs. J.C. Peaslee of Kis-Lynn, Pa., Mrs. Charles M. Cornell and Mrs. Enus Madison of Hillsdale, N.Y., two sons, Erastus J. Bailey and Fred M. Bailey of Cooperstown, N.Y., and a brother, Edwin M. Bailey of Amsterdam, N.Y.
Funeral services were held at his late home, last week Thursday afternoon, the Rev. Mr. Robbins of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating. Burial in the village cemetery, under the direction of Frank Green and son of Westville.
