Fred M. Bailey

Fred M. Bailey, aged 82, a retired cheesemaker, died Wednesday morning at St. Joseph's Home in Ogdensburg, where he ahd been a patient since September.

Mr. Bailey was born April 7, 1874, in middlefield, a son of Albert and Savilla (Thayer) Bailey. He was educated in district schools there. He lived at Cooperstown for a time where he was a clerk in a store.

He was a cheesemaker by trade and worked in factories in the Watertown area after moving to Hammond in the early 1920's. In recent years he has worked as an interior decorator and painter.

He married Miss Florence Ingalls of Hartwick in 1898. She died in 1917. In May 1924, he married Miss Merla Storie of Hammond. She died in 1925.

Mr. Bailey was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown.

Surviving are four children by his first marriage, Morgan Bailey of Indian Castle; Mrs. Frank Leslie of Richfield Springs; Robert M. Bailey of Cooperstown; and Mrs. William Sprague of Yorkville; a son by a second marriage, Merle Bailey of Fort Worth, Tex.; a brother, Erastus Bailey of Schenectady; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Saturday at 2 p.m in the Eustis Funeral Home in Hammond, with the Rev. W. Hablbert Campbell, pastor of the Theresa Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in the spring.
