Erastus J. Bailey, aged 89, of 12 Cherry Lane, Scotia, former Cooperstown resident, died at a Utica Hospital on Tuesday, December 5, following a long illness.


He was born September 1, 1872, at Middlefield the son of Albert and Savilla (Thayer) Bailey. He married nellie may Wyckoff of September 1, 1898. He was a printer by trade.


Mr. Bailey was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Schenectady.


Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Miss Marjorie N. Bailey of Jersey City, N.J.; five sons, Douglas E., Harold L., and Ralph W., all of Schenectady; Ronald W. of Cleveland, Ohio, and Alben J. of Scotia and several grandchildren.


Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 9, at 2 p.m. from the Ingalls Funeral Home, with the Rev. Melvin Dorr, pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Schenectady, officiating. Burial was in Hartwick Seminary Cemetery. (Published in The Otsego Farmer Thursday, December 14, 1961)
