Juanita Boykin Bishop, 83, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, formerly of Cleveland, MS died Friday, January 30, 2009, at North Mississippi Hospice in Oxford, MS.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2009, at New Cleveland Cemetery in Cleveland, MS under the direction of Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Methodist Church in Cleveland. The Rev. Billy Owen will officiate at the services.
A native of Delta City, MS, Mrs. Bishop worked as an elementary school teacher and a guidance counselor for more than 30 years in Baton Rouge and Cleveland, where she lived for many years. She enjoyed gardening and attending services at First Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, where she was a member.
Mrs. Bishop was preceded in death by her father, James "Jim" Boykin; her mother, Etta Boykin; her husband, Frank Watkins Bishop Jr.; four sisters, Helen Williams, Adrene Hollingsworth, Edith Boykin and Margaret Patterson; two brothers, James Boykin Jr. and William "Billy" Boykin; her daughter, Margaret Kent Bishop; and her son, James "Jim" Boykin Bishop.
She is survived by three children, Frank Watkins Bishop III of Oxford, Nita Bishop Thornell of Rocky Mountain, N.C., formerly of Cleveland and John Champ Bishop of New York City, N.Y; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
