James A. Boykin of Delta City, South Delta Planter and former tax assessor and former circuit-chancery clerk of Sharkey county, died in King's Daughters Hospital here at 5:35 a.m. today after he had been taken suddenly ill at his home. He was 70.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. at his residence in Delta City by the Rev. T. E. Nicholson, pastor of the Methodist Church. Burial will be in Vickland Cemetery. National Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Boykin was born and lived his entire life at Delta City. He received his education in the Sharkey county schools and was graduated from a business college in St. Louis.
He served for 12 years as Sharkey county's tax assessor and 12 years as the county's chancery-circuit clerk.
Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Leo Williams of Hollandale, Miss Edith Boykin of Rolling Fork, Mrs. Thomas Hollingsworth of Hollandale, Mrs. F. W. Bishop Jr., of Cleveland, Mrs. W. E. Patterson Jr. of Delta City; and two sons, W. M. Boykin of Greenville and J. A. Boykin Jr., of Delta City.
He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. A. M. Richards and Mrs. W. C. Seale, both of Delta City; Mrs. A. L. Lenhart of Murphy, and three brothers, G. P. Boykin, O. L. Boykin and T. D. Boykin, all of Delta City. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren.
