Uncle Ed was born on Saturday, August 4, 1928, at 1:30 p.m. at 602 East Sycamore. He was the youngest of six children of Emil and Agnes (Ryan) Beaver. He was baptized at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kokomo. His Aunt Kitty documented that Ed learned to walk on Sunday, Jan. 26, 1930. "He just walked off and kept on going." Ed married Betty Shields and had one child, a son named Casey. They later divorced. He worked for 36 years at Continental Steel Corporation in Kokomo. He worked in the power plant and did years of shift work. He was a staunch union man. (Don't get him started talking!) He was the driving force behind saving his pension from what turned out to be dishonest management. His zeal in protecting his worker rights helped other co-workers at the Mill. He was also a former member of the Indiana National Guard and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and National Rifle Association. Uncle Ed liked to recount once when he was helping with a building foundation at his brother Dan's trailer park. Kids had dug a big hole where the cement was to be poured. Ed said he just had more cement delivered! He liked to do things thoroughly. Ed mentioned once that police came to his door to ask if he owned a particular car. He said, yes, it was in the back. Well, he found out that it had been stolen and used in a robbery! Ed lived for numerous years with his mother and looked after her. He had heart problems and died at the age of 64.
