Big Cabin, OK — Graveside services for Marie DeLay Blount will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, in Big Cabin Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore's Eastlawn Chapel in Tulsa.


Born July 31, 1913, in Pryor to John Bird and Kate Lane DeLay, she passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2008. She married Oscar Harris Blount on March 6, 1937, in Chandler.


She attended Browning Springs Grade School and graduated from Pryor High School in 1931. She received her bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah and her master's degree from Southeastern State University in Durant. She taught school in Mayes and Craig Counties, taught business education at Big Cabin High, White Oak High and Vinita High Schools before moving to Ardmore in 1947 where she taught at Plainview High School for 31 years before retiring in 1979. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the Vinita Stockyards, a vegetable producer in Holtville, Calif., and Oklahoma Motor Co. in Ardmore. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Delta Zeta Sorority and the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association.


She is survived by a son, Harris Roger Blount, of Tulsa; and brother, Paul DeLay, of Redding, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband and 10 siblings.
