CASAR — Mr. Gerald William Brackett, 72, of 6119 Ward's Gap Road, died Wednes-day, Dec. 29, 2004, at Hospice at Wendover.

Born Jan. 26, 1932, in Cleveland County, he was a son of Gladys Deviney Brackett of Casar and the late William Ruffin Brackett. He played professional baseball for a number of years and was owner and operator of Brackett Oil Co., which he founded in 1959. He was a member of Casar United Methodist Church.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Dianne Hager Brackett.

He is survived by two sons, Scott Brackett and Tim Brackett of Casar; a sister, Anther Brackett of Casar; two brothers, Wayne Brackett and Roger Brackett of Casar; and two grandsons, Devin Brackett and Josh Willis of Casar.

The funeral will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Casar United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Larry Thompson and Keith Fulbright officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.
