JOHN COY, 84, TAKEN BY DEATH
Dies at Home Northwest of Here – Funeral to be Held Wednesday
EDINBURG, Feb. 17. – John Wesley Coy, 84, died at 2:05 this morning at his home 7 miles southwest of Edinburg, where he lived. He had been ill only a short time.
A week ago his daughter, Mrs. R. G. Fordyce, entertained him and his sisters and a few relatives with a dinner.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday at New Bethel church in charge of the Rev. Ray Bozell. Burial will be in the Kansas Cemetery.
He was born in Bartholomew County Oct. 6, 1856, son of Samuel and Martha Anderson Coy. Most of his life was spent in the same community.
On Aug. 1, 1878, he married Hannah M. Milnes and 15 children were born of the union. His wife and three children preceded him in death. He was a member of the New Bethel church. Survivors include Mrs. Alvin Wirey of Franklin rural route; Mrs. William Galey of Edinburg rural route 2; Mrs. Wilbur Clark of Franklin rural route; Mrs. A. L. Hammer of Indianapolis; Lora Coy of Edinburg route 2; Mrs. Fordyce of Edinburg; Mrs. H. A. Campbell of Barnsboro, Pa.; Emerson Coy of near Edinburg; Mrs. Leslie Waltz, near Edinburg; Ray Coy of Brownsburg; Mrs. Herman Campbell of Brookville, Pa.; and Mrs. Ellis McKee of near Edinburg; 50 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one brother, R. A. Coy, of Edinburg and 3 sisters, Mrs. Kate Miles [Milnes], Mrs. Mary Coffman of Edinburg, and Mrs. Howard Evans [Edwards] of Clifford.
He had been active beyond his years. Last winter during the severe cold weather he mounted his horse and rode to his brother's home in the Pisgah community, a distance of approximately 14 miles.

John Wesley Coy, age 84, lifelong resident of Bartholomew County, died Monday at his home southwest of Edinburg.
Last rites were held Wednesday afternoon in New Bethel Church in Bartholomew County, in charge of the Rev. Ray Bozell. Burial was in the Kansas Cemetery.
Mr. Coy was the son of Samuel and Martha Anderson Coy, and was born Oct. 6, 1856, in Bartholomew County. He was married August 1, 1878, to Hannah Milnes. Fifteen children were born to them. Twelve of them survive, also fifty grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The surviving children are: Mrs. Alvin Wirey, Franklin; Mrs. William Galey, Edinburg; Mrs. Wilbur Clark, Franklin; Mrs. A.L. Hammer, Indianapolis; Lora Coy, Edinburg; Mrs. R.
