On November 16, 1922, Bob was born in Deer Park, Washington to Joseph Leo Emmett Meagher and Ellen Alice Doswell Meagher, joining his older brother, Joe, Jr. By 1929 the family had settled in Santa Maria, California where his sisters Barbara and Mickey and younger brother Jim were born.

After graduating from Santa Maria High School in 1942, Bob joined the US Navy becoming an Aviation Machinist Mate First Class. He served until February 1946. Bob went to live in Seattle, Washington with his aunt Margaret Meagher, and then moved to San Jose, California. He had been stationed at NAS Alameda and Moffett Field during the war and loved the Bay Area.

In May 1947, Bob met Marjorie when he walked into the Safeway Stores District Manager's Office to apply for a job. She not only hired him but, had him placed in the store where she shopped. They were married on January 31, 1948 and are blessed with three wonderful children; Joe, Anne and Louise.

For $9,200 they purchased their home on Bundy Avenue in July 1950. Bob worked at the Lincoln-Mercury dealership on Market Street in downtown San Jose until November 1956 when he joined the San Jose Fire Department. Injured in a gardening store fire in May 1980, he was never able to return to the line. Bob was retired as a Driver-Engineer on January 1, 1981, and died at home twenty years later to the day.

November 16, 2002: Celebrated what would have been Bob's 80th birthday near his niche at Oak Hill by having a birthday cake and singing Happy Birthday. Just as we finished singing, a fire truck roared by on Curtner Avenue with siren wailing and horn blaring enroute to an alarm. How appropriate.
