He served in the United States Navy in 1957 for two years and was stationed in Hawaii and Moffet Field Naval Station.
James began his career as a parts supply person at Iverson motors in the 1960s and spent some time as a commercial painter before an accident forced him to retire from painting.
He returned to his calling as a parts supply person, working at various parts supply house's until settling in at Santa Maria Diesel where he continued to work until retirement.
Jim's passion for fast race cars began in High School and transformed into reality when he and a few friends from Santa Maria began drag racing here at the old Golden State Raceway and all around California with what is now known as the NHRA. He was also a Big fan of Nascar with #24 Jeff Gordon being his favorite Driver.
Mr. Meagher is survived by his sons, James Jr. and wife, Shirley, and Ronald and Joseph Meagher, Grandchildren, Joshua, P.J, Jordan and Jenna Meagher, sister, Barbara Darby of San Jose Ca., brother in law, Larry Darby of Las Vegas, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Emmett Meagher and Ellen Alice (Doswell) Meagher, brothers, Joe and Bob, sister, Mickey Darby and brother in law, Bill Darby, his first wife and mother of his three boys, Rebecca Meagher.
