Opal Waller Bailey, 84, of Steele, died Thursday, February 24, 2005 at the River Oaks Care Center in Steele.
Born September 17, 1920, in Crockett County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Virginia Mansfield McDonald. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
She attended schools in Tennessee.
Opal was united in marriage to Jerry Waller in October of 1939. He preceded her in death on November of 1988 after 49 years of marriage.
On July 24, 1991, in Blytheville, Ark., she was united in marriage to Ben Bailey. He preceded her in death in June of 2003.
She was retired from Brown Shoe Company and was a member of the Steele Church of Christ. She also wrote for the Steele Enterprise newspaper in the 'What's Going On" column for several years.
Mrs. Bailey leaves three daughters: Glenda Byrd and her husband, Bill, of Calhoun, Ga., Jerline Bates and her husband, Bill, of Moulton, Texas, and Vicky Takayama and her husband, Dennis, of San Bruno, Calif.; five grandchildren: Janet Myszkowski, Diana Cunningham, ad Elizabeth Fardo, all of Atlanta, Ga., Will Bates of Raytown, Mo., and Libby Bates of Glendale, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren and one sister, Mouffie Read, of Falls Church, Va.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bailey were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2005, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with John Mundy officiating.
Burial was at the Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele.
Pallbearers were Harold Barnes, Gene Kellems, Phillip Cassidy, Merlyn Bishop, Jr., Brian Callis and Josh Callis.
