Naomi Cavender Cobb, 83, of Pinch passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, in Marmet Health Care after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Naomi was the daughter of Lloyd and Elma Price Frame Fisher. Naomi was a 1937 graduate of Elk District High School She was deeply rooted in the Christian faith and was a member of the Cooper's Creek Advent Christian Church. For the past 10 years, she had been a faithful member of the congregation at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Pinch.

Naomi was a dedicated citizen of the communities in which she lived. She served as a youth leader of her church, teaching Sunday school classes and directing the youth groups and the annual Christmas plays, and was a member of the Women's Home and Foreign Mission Society. She was leader of the community 4-H Leader's Association. She was always a homeroom mother and member of the PTA. In 1990, she represented Kanawha County as the Belle at the Glenville State Folk Festival. This past month, she was awarded a 50-year membership certificate as a member of the Community Education and Outreach Services, formerly known as Extension Homemakers.

Her announced goal in life was to be a good mother and wife. She was proud of her family and is survived sons, Jerry and wife, Carolyn Cavender, of Kenna, William and wife, Linda Cavender, of Pinch; daughters Janet Cavender Craig of Pinch. She has six grandchildren, Christina Craig Wilt, Jeffrey Cavender, Adam Cavender, Robin Cavender Eggleton, Jerry Cavender II and Andrea Cavender. The current joy of her life were six great-grandchildren, Derek and Dalton Wilt, Caleb, Megan and Sydney Cavender, and Kiersten Eggleton.

Also surviving are brothers, Clark Fisher of Clendenin, Vernon Jacob Fisher of Gustin, Calif.; and sister Anna Dawson of Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Emanuel "Shorty" Cavender and Glenn Opie Cobb; siblings, Siebert Fisher, Gladys Fisher, Ralph Frame, Siegal Frame, Beulah Miller, Freda Shaw, Eugene Fisher, her identical twin Norma Thornton, and Denver Fisher.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the development fund for Camp Whitney, which is the Advent Christian Camp for Youth at Clendenin. Send donations to Richard Chandler, P.O. Box 1244, Clendenin, WV 25045.

Hafer Funeral Home in Elkview is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Nahum Blaser and the Rev. James A. Walther officiating. Burial will follow at the Jones Cemetery on Cooper's Creek.
