Maria came to Illinois when she was eleven. She professed conversion at age nineteen, uniting with the Baptist Church at Plainfield, Illinois. Miss Boardman taught school for a time, first in Illinois and later in California. She was one of a family of eleven children. All are deceased except one brother in California and her twin sister, Mrs. William Farr of this city. Her funeral was graveside in Greenwood Cemetery.
