Sacramento Union, Volume 217, Number 17, 17 November 1920: Died. BOARDMAN—In Willows, Glenn Co., November 14, 1920, F.M. Boardman, husband of Mrs. Lou Boardman, father of Herbert Boardman of Oroville, Butte county; Mrs. Walter Cress of San Diego; Mrs. Bert White and Mrs. C.G. Gerber of Willows; a native of Vermont, aged 83 years, 11 months and 10 days.

Colusa Herald, Volume XXXV, Number 65, 18 November 1920: COLUSA COUNTY PIONEER PASSES AWAY IN WILLOWS. The Willows Journal of Monday says: In the passing away of F.M. Boardman at his home at 134 South Shasta street last Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, there ended the earthly career of another pioneer resident of this vicinity, and one who had attained the advanced age of 84 years. The end of a long, active and energetic life came quietly, prior to which he had just chopped an armful of wood, carried same into the house, put a stick into the grate, and then sat down in his favorite chair and breathed his last. Dr. Rawhauser was called, but it was too late—the eternal call had been answered.

Francis Marion Boardman was born in Burlington, Vt., December 4. 1836, and had he lived less than another month, would have been 84 years of age. When a boy of 18 he came to California by way of Panama, and worked for many years for his brother, C.C. Boardman, at Bear valley. When the rush for gold was started he teamed between Sacramento and Virginia City. Later he was foreman of the Williams ranch, near the town now named therefrom, and next engaged in farming for himself. Deceased installed the I.O.O.F. lodge in Willows, and was present as one of the installing officers when the F. & A.M. was formed. In 1877 he was married to Mrs. Lou Duncan in Williams, who survives him, and two sons and three daughters blessed the union, one son. Cornelius Ray, dying when 6 years of age. Surviving the deceased are; Herbert Boardman, Oroville; Mrs. Walter Cress. San Diego: Mrs. Bert White and Mrs. C.C. Garber, Willows; also a nephew, W.W. Boardman, Leesville; and sister, Mrs. Sophia Farr, Nashua, Iowa, who is 87 years old.

Mr. Boardman was a quiet citizen, a man who led a good life, was industrious and the soul of honor. He had an exceptionally genial disposition which he maintained up to the last, and was highly respected in this vicinity. The funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Methodist church. Rev. Douglas T. Reed will officiate and interment will be in Willows cemetery.
