Foster, was born near Columbus, Ohio, in 1828, and in early youth accompanied his parents on their removal to Clanton, Illinois, where he later followed merchandising. His last days were spent in Clarinda, Iowa, where he died in the year 1884. He was married Zerviah Porter, November 8, 1849. Zerviah (Porter) Foster was born at Clarkson Corners (near Rochester), New York, on the 19th day of March, 1833, and passed away in Los Angeles, California, August 8, 1902."
Zerviah was probably named after her paternal grandmother, Zerviah Hawkins Porter, wife of John S. Porter of Henderson, Jefferson, NY.
Zerviah married Franklin Foster on 8 Nov 1849 in Fulton County, IL. In 1850 they lived in Farmington, Fulton, IL. In 1870 F.P. Foster was living in Omaha, Douglas, NE. Zerviah was not with him. In the 1880 census Zervia is widowed and living with her daughter Clara and granddaughter Gertie in Santa Anna, Los Angeles, CA. In 1900 Zerviah was living with her granddaughter Gertrude in Santa Anna. Zerviah died in 1901. (Note: the differences in death dates for both Zerviah and Franklin.)
Zerviah and Franklin had five children (1900 census-5 children, 4 living): Clara, born about 1852; Charles H., born May 1854; Jay D., born 9 Oct 1861; Zaida, born Sep 1865; and an unknown child.
Charles H. Foster married Marion Flemming (#37575839) on 13 Mar 1879. He married second Edith Rounds (#37575799). Charles and Edith had a son Joseph who died at the age of 12 in 1934.
Jay D. Foster (#37575819) married Leonora Smith (#37575820). He was the founder and president of the Foster-Barker Insurance Co. in Omaha, NE.
