Calvin Huston (Pat) Sartin, 80, of Rich Creek, Va., went to be with his Lord from his home on Monday, February, 21, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 16, 1930, at Eggleston, Va., he was the son of the late William Jackson and Lucy Cree Hopkins Sartin. Pat was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a lifelong resident of Giles County and had been residing in Rich Creek for 47 years. A United States Marine Corps Veteran, Pat served his country during the Korean Conflict where he earned rank of Corporal. He loved to fish and camp along the New River. He was a skilled Auto Body Mechanic and Upholsterer in Rich Creek. Pat was of the Methodist faith and had been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rich Creek for 47 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, J.W., Joel "Punk," Basil and Oakley Sartin; and two sisters, Margaret Cree Weiss and Ruth Sartin Stafford.
Survivors include his childhood sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Charlotte Stafford Sartin; one son, Jonathan P. "Jon" Sartin, of Rich Creek, Va.; one daughter, Melissa Sartin Light and husband, David, of Glen Lyn, Va.; four grandchildren, Christina S. Graham and husband, Sgt. Matthew Graham, Jonathan Patrick Sartin II, and Hannah and Rachel Light; three greatgrandchildren, Kaylin, Ian and Eli Graham; two brothers, Alvin Sartin and wife, Pam, and Donald Sartin and wife, Shirley; four sisters, Estelle Skeen and husband, Raymond, Joann Sartin, Linda Craft, and Dreama Page and husband, Donnie; and brothers and sisters-in-law, William E. and Frances Bowling, Donald and Lois Stafford and H. Buford Steele.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church of Rich Creek, Va., with Pastor Doug Hyndrich officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va., with Military Rites by Pembroke VFW Post 311, Narrows VFW Post 6000, Narrows American Legion Post 68 and Peterstown Rowe Jones Post 145. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, W.Va.
