GREENWOOD SPRINGS - Roger Shields, 58, died Nov. 7, 2003, at his residence in Greenwood Springs. Services are today at 2 p.m. at E.E.Pickle Funeral Home of Amory with the Bro. Charles Flippo officiating. Burial is in Lann Cemetery in Splunge. Visitation is until time of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Shields was born Nov. 24, 1944, in Aberdeen to the late A. J. and Thelma Shields. He retired as a machinist at True Temper Sports after 20 years of service in 1993. Mr. Shields had lived in the Splunge Community for 32 years. He attended Greenwood Springs Schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army 7th Armor Division serving in Germany. Mr. Shields was president of the Union for four years and was member of the Assembly of God Church where he served in church leadership as a deacon and a board member for multiple years. He was coach of the Greenwood Springs softball team for four years.

Survivors include his son, Michael Shields of Splunge; daughter, Tina Rost of Smithville; brother, A. J. Shields of Aberdeen; sisters, Geraldine Tipton of Splunge, Avis Threadgill of Gattman, Shirley Parrish of Hatley and Laura West of Amory; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers are Jerry Tipton, Harold Otts, Lloyd Threadgill, David Shields, Doyle Guyton and Phillip Shields.
