Isaac was the son of Edward Long and Jane S Jones. He married Nancy Bolton in Pittsylvania county, Virginia on 18 Nov 1799. He was a Primative Baptist Minister. The following obituary was sent to Rev. Peter Long by Samuel D. Branson, and was published in the Western Evangelist. Samuel Branson's mother was Susannah Bolton. Susannah's older sister, Nancy, was Rev. Isaac Long's wife. So Isaac was Samuel's Uncle.

OBITUARY – Racoon Valley, P.O. Tenn., May 4 1856
Dear Bro. Long:
I herewith send you an obituary of Elder Isaac Long, who fell asleep in Jesus on the third day fo March 1856. Elder Isaac long was born in the State of Virginia, where it pleased the Lord to call him out of nature's darkness unto his marvelous light and the glorious liberties of the children of God. He found Baptist church of Christ while young and soon was called to the work to the ministry and about fifty years of his life was spent in preaching the everlasting Gospel of the Son of God. His theme was free grace and experimental religion….. The disease which terminated his existence in this world was most excruciating pain, caused by an eating cancer on his chin, and as his dissolution was fast approaching, he said what I have suffered and do suffer I can never tell, yet said he, "I am certain it will not shorten my days." He bore his pain and suffering with paintience and Christian meekness, without a murmur….
Elder Long was about eighty years of age… I am yours, in tribulation and patience. Samuel D. Branson.
(Raccoon Valley P.O. was in Knox county until 1866 when it moved to Union county, and was where Samuel Branson lived in 1856. It is the inside address of his letter to Rev. Peter Long, not where Isaac died. Isaac was born in Pennsylvania as shown by his 1850 census record. He moved to Virginia with his family at an early age and that accounts for Samuel Branson's error.)

(All records indicate that Isaac lived in Anderson county through 1850. In 1850 a portion of Anderson county was taken to form Union county. Except for particular exceptions, wills are probated in the county in which the person died. Since Isaac's will was probated in Union county he must have lived in the section of Anderson county that became Union county in 1850.)

Isaac and Nancy were the parents of ten children:
Jemima Long 1801- (married Joab Capps)
Jane Long 1803- (married Ephraim Hammack)
James Long 1805- (married Levina Johnson, Lucinda Brown)
Elisha Long 1808-1885 (married Elizabeth Landrum)
Thomas Bolton Long 1809-1890 Married Charlotte Taylor, Anna Hudson)
Lucy Long 1812-1862 (married John Kirk)
Nancy Long 1814-1859 (married Chesley Mitchell)
George Long 1817-1868 (married Rebecca Johnson)
Isaac Long 1818-1864 (married Maria Yadon)
Moses Long 1820-1859 (married Elizabeth Hartley)
(Isaac had a brother, George, who died in McMinn Co TN in 1849.)
The George Long linked below is ficticious.
