OLD NEBO CHURCH RECORDS TRANSCRIPT
RESEARCHED INFORMATION BELOW.
This info is not from a book
written by anyone, it's from
the transcripts of the old church
records. Copied and sent by an Elder of
the church.

(THIS) George Long was the son of Edward
Long and Jane 'Jones'. He was
the grandson of Thomas Long. HE IS NOT
THE REV. GEORGE W. LONG 1!

George's brothers were:
James
Isaac
William
John
Moses
Thomas
Edward Jr.
Church records show he
had three sisters also,
but their names weren't
recorded.

RECORDS and STORIES
George's brother's James, William,
John, Thomas and Edward Jr. all served
in the Rev. War with Washington's own
crossing of the Delaware according to
the records. Thomas and Edward Jr. was
at Yorktown and Edward Jr. was shot in
the head. He was relieved of his duties,
however, he lived until 1844. It is
recorded in these records, James Long was
only 16 at the end of the war. He was
buried in the Smith Grove Cemetery and
for over 100 years, had no marker. A DAR
chapter located his grave and it now
as a monument in regards to his Rev.War
service.

NOTE: INFO ALL FOUND IN OLD RECORDS and
COPIED AND SENT BY AN ELDER OF THE CHURCH
TO PAR.

NOTE: Peter Long was the son of James
Long. He also became a Baptist preacher.
Peter Long wrote the Western and in one
of the articles, wrote about his uncles,
Isaac and George Long living in Tennessee
and being Baptist preachers. ONE RESEARCHER,
FOUND THIS ARTICLE AND MISTOOK IT FOR BEING
THE REV. GEORGE W. LONG 1, who was also a
Baptist preacher living in Tennessee. The
researcher has posted this and others have
taken the article to mean the Edward Long &
Jane 'Jones' were therefor the parents of
the Rev. George W. Long 1.
NOW ONCE AGAIN PROOF THAT IS NOT CORRECT.

George's brothers, James and Isaac, both
became Baptist preachers as George W. did
also. The records show this George Long lived
and died in Raccoon Valley, Union Co., Tn..
RECORDS: THIS GEORGE LONG DIED IN 1851.
(He is not the Rev. George W. Long 1 whom
lived in Sevier Co., Tn. & later in McMinn
Co., Tennessee and died in 1849 in McMinn
Co., Tennessee) Records prove these facts
about the Rev. Geo. W. Long 1.

THERE WERE TWO DIFFERENT GEORGE LONG'S!
NEW RESEARCH FOUND PROVES THIS FACT!

(Verbatim Transcript)

Kaskaskia United Baptist Association

DNA matches, but it doesn't go back to the
generation of Edward Long. They have no
proof of this generation being the connection
to Rev. Geo. W. Long I. Edward Long did
not list George W. Long I in his will! The
only proof they have is the letter written
by Peter Long. It's not anymore proof than
that of the direct Long family of Rev. Geo.
W. Long I. Now the Church Records from the
Edward Long family also proves his son was
NOT the Rev. George W. Long I, who lived in
Sevier Co., Tennessee and later in McMinn
County, Tennessee.

Began and held at Cold Spring Church, Shelby County,
Illinois, on the fourth Saturday of September, 1841,
and days following.
The introductory sermon was delivered by Elder Peter
Long, from Hebrews, 3rd chapter and 1st verse.
********************************************
At the time a book was dedicated in regards to
the Old Mt. Nebo Church, a great granddaughter
of Elder Peter Long was living at the age of
91, still attending the church. Also she wasn't
the oldest, her brother-in-law, Mike Mollet, and
his sister, Alice 'Mollet' Oswald were also living.
However, Ruth was the oldest member of the
church, past or present. She was active in the
Daughters of 1812, and was very proud to share
her heritage with all of her descendants. Her gift
of $1000.00 for the maintenance of Old Nebo cemetery
is evidence of her love for her heritage. The Old
Nebo Cemetery might have become an abandoned cemetery.
*****************************************************
Please ask yourself, why would the one story told by
Peter found to be correct by some and not the history
and stories from the Rev. Geo. W. Long 1 own family
members? Stories, books, Bibles and other materials
stating his lineage, which have been passed down for
many generations of the families.
