From theBlunt Advocate newspaper, Blunt, Hughes, SD, 30 Mar 1916, page 5:
"Late Monday afternoon this community was shocked by the news of the drowning of the little 5 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Woodward, which is supposed to have occurred some time before the noon hour. The family resides on East Missouri Avenue and the little fellow was last seen alive about eleven o'clock when he returned home with his dog and was cautioned to keep away from the river. He is supposed to have returned to the river and while playing along the bank fell in and was drowned. The river was dragged several times but no trace of the remain have been found."
