Ralph D. Evans, 89, of Denmark, formerly of West Burlington, died 8:40 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.Born September 23, 1922 in Fontanelle, Iowa, he was the son of Lyle and Ida Pearl Gordon Evans. On August 9, 1942 he married Erma Ruschill in Burlington.He was a graduate of Winterset High School.Ralph worked for Gustafson Bros. Dairy, Johnson's Cities Service and Bickels. For the past ten years he helped weekly at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson as a ticket taker and greeter. He enjoyed visiting with the fans.He was a US Army Veteran serving in the Chemical Service during WWII. From January 1943 until March 1946 he served in New Guinea, Philippine Islands and Japan.Ralph was a longtime resident of West Burlington before his move to Denmark. He is a member of the West Burlington United Methodist Church and the VFW Post #10102. He was active in auto restoration and still collected and enjoyed vintage articles and ads.He enjoyed gardening and being among nature, the trees, flowers, birds, and listening to old band music.Survivors include one daughter; Vicki Lee (Dennis) Harwood of Denmark; a granddaughter; Jenni (Terry) Hoenig; great granddaughters; Olivia and Chloe Hoenig; along with many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, his wife Erma and son-in-law Leonard Carlson.A memorial has been established for the VFW Post #
